And So It Begins…

Yes, the first chapter of #ReconciliationTX is now live.

If the characters of Jolene and Donovan seem a bit familiar to some of you, there’s a reason. They have been salvaged from an unfinished story at Lit. Forbidden Fruit (the original title) was in the Interracial Love category. I abandoned it and others when I grew the *F* up and realized that the color of someone’s skin was among the least important things to look for in a lover. While I continued to write multi-cultural romances, that shift in focus left some stories orphaned.

I believe it is a testament to the characters and storyline that I kept having readers beg me to get Callie, Donovan, and Selena out of that elevator. (Please don’t go reading those old chapters if you have not already. It will just confuse you.) But I had no idea how to pussyfoot around the issues of race in the original. The answer is…

I’m not going to.

But no spoilers about the complex backstories of these two.

For the couple of you that may have already read the story at Lit, not only will you notice a more profound portrayal of Donovan, but there are a few other not so small details I needed to change. Like…

Well, moving Jo from Fayetteville, NC to Sebida. Small tiny matter – that one.

But the bigger change is her name. Besides description, the other thing I suck at is naming. Just ask my children. Come on, I have a Hope and two Angels. Since I already had a Callie in #TroubleTexasStyle and a Cassie, I went with Jolene…

Or Jo for short. And yes, that name is part of her back story.

Oh, and while I’m playing with YouTube links, yes, I have started a #ReconciliationTX playlist too.

And if you are like me, the type you needs visual aids, then check out my Pinterest board for this story…

I will be adding new photographs as the characters are introduced. Oh, and all images are legitimately purchased stock photos, not just ‘stolen’ from the internet.

There won’t be another chapter in #ReconciliationTX tomorrow. Instead I will be posting brand new material in No Strings Attached. But it is related to this storyline. So, I hope you’ll check that out. But I will be back on Wednesday with another chapter and a new character in this storyline. Well, you’ve met him before. But his part was miniscule.

And just to warn you…

So, if crooked sheriffs, drug cartels, human trafficking, domestic abuse, male rape, and racism were not enough to offend you, then fair warning, you are in for more…

  • Racism…
  • Classism (American style)…
  • Gay romance (my first)…
  • A cross-dresser/drag queen…
  • Sexualization of minors…
  • …and Gender Non-Conforming.

And trust me, Jack has plenty of shitpisscockcuntmotherfuckinsonsofbitches in there. I’m actually going to design a t-shirt that says. Except in a circle, so it takes people a couple of minutes to work out what it says.

So, this week and next will be more of that slow burn, build-up as I introduce the characters and storylines. Buckle up, folks, cause this ride has more twists and turns than Farm-to-Market Road 149, and just as many potholes, too.

Goddess bless you all for sticking with me,
Tara
